CCRC Rehabilitation Services

Community Care of Rutherford County offers a full complement of therapy services which are provided by a skilled staff of Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Language Pathologists (we also have a massage therapist once a week). Our focus is on having the individual become as independent as possible at CCRC or when they return home. Our therapy team is “in-house” and is designated staffing for CCRC only. This is unlike other facilities, where the therapy staff is contracted and the therapist goes to several facilities in a day. “In-house” therapy provides for consistent therapist/resident relationships.

Residents receiving rehabilitation services work with the therapist to assess and treat the deficit that brought them into therapy. Our Physical/Occupational Therapy gym houses a fully functioning kitchen for practicing cooking, dishwashing and table setting to assess for safety prior to going home. There are stairs, curbs, ramps and other equipment within the department designed to help improve resident’s abilities to function. Our Speech-Language Pathologists have their own therapy room where they can work with residents on swallowing, communication, memory, voice or speech. Therapists take residents shopping or to various locations in the community to practice the skills they have re-learned in therapy. Residents are able to utilize the Wii and our IN2L computer system for therapy as well as traditional therapy approaches such as exercise, therapeutic activites and gait training. Our goal is for therapy to be as functional as possible so our residents are able to be as independent as possible and retain the gains they achieve in therapy.

Our therapists come from a diverse background of work settings, including hospital, in patient rehab, outpatient clinics and home health, as well as long term care. Fay, CCRC’s lead speech pathologist, is a vital stim certified therapist and Caryn, our physical therapy assistant is a certified lymphedema specialist. Justin, occupational therapist, and Jeanne, physical therapist, are both certified in modalities (e-stim, ultrasound,etc.).

Our team offers home assessments for all residents planning to return home. We go to the home with the resident and family to assess how the resident functions at home making recommendations to improve safety and independence prior to discharge to ease the transition from therapy to home. In 2008, we sent approximately five people per month home or to an assisted living facility after completion of rehab.
